Fit like iday? Sorry… let me shake off the Doric from my latest Aberdeen tour :p. It's been a wee while since I posted a blog and while there is lots I want to write about, I just have to share the magical camping trip I had in Glencoe at the weekend!

I was in Aberdeen last week for the quietest tour I think I’ve ever done which is always a bit disappointing but at least I had a weekend of camping ahead to look forward to. If you’ve just come across my blogs, as well as being an anal loving harlot that loves to play with cock and fuck, I also have a wholesome side and part of that is spending time outside, especially if it means getting to go camping! Glencoe is an area I’d been to before but never spent much time there. The plan was to drive from Aberdeen to Glencoe on Friday with a break in Aviemore for some swimming and to pick up some messages then spend Friday evening until Sunday in Glencoe before returning to Edinburgh.

I’ve been itching to do some wild swimming this summer and Aviemore has so many options! My friend and I decided to stop at Loch Vaa so we could have a wee daunder around before going for a dook. It was my first time there and such a lovely spot! The boathouse was enough to have my horror movie senses tingling before swapping my sweaty leggings for a swimsuit. Seriously, the water felt so good! I haven’t done much wild swimming since I was young but it’s something I really want to do more of, know any good spots you want to share?

After picking up a weekend amount of snacks (because what’s camping without snacks?!), I was happy to get on the road again. I love driving round twisty roads and getting an eyeful of Scottish scenery at every turn and the road to Glencoe wasn’t short of that. We finally got settled into our campsite which was surrounded by more gorgeous scenery. I was in heaven, despite the midges doing their best to eat us alive! It was a pretty relaxed Friday which was just as well given what Saturday would have in store…

Saturday morning was spent on a wee solo hike to check out signal rock and the gorgeous graveyard in Ballachulish that looks over Loch Leven. I sat in the graveyard for a while, sometimes you just have to soak it in when two loves crash into each other - exploring graveyards and admiring mountain scenery! By the time I was back at the campsite, a third friend had joined us and we were planning a BBQ and a sunset hike for the rest of the day. For the sunset hike, we went to see the Grey Mare’s Tail waterfall in Kinlochleven before climbing the hill above it. There was no sunset to see but we did spot a stag and a few hinds which more than made up for it. The descent had us joining the West Highland Way for a short section where we got to confuse some runners taking part in the WHW race! I can’t get over how quickly folk can run it!

The most special part of the weekend to me was yet to come. We were expecting rain to start about 1am but when we were all heading to bed at 2am and nothing had come, we made our usual scoffs at weather forecasting. Something woke me a little before 4am, not sure what but I’m so grateful it did because it meant I got to enjoy the full experience of camping through my first thunderstorm! The thunder was insane, days later I feel like I can still hear it and the way it echoed through the glen. For a short spell, it felt like the thunder and lightning was almost on top of each other and I wondered what we should do! Then the rain came and I watched our tent get hammered. My friends slowly woke up during the peak of the storm, one of them braving the rain to go pee and one of them trying to drown out the sounds and go back to sleep. I was beyond excited! It felt like the elements were having an absolute battle and we were just protected by canvas. When the thunder and lightning died down, the rain stayed and honestly, I’m so chuffed with our tent that it kept us dry and safe all night. I have camped through heavy winds and rain before but never anything like this and I’m so happy I woke up in time to drink it all in from the first rumbles of thunder to the final flashes of lightning.

Sunday was a bit of a slow start after the 4am excitement! One friend was keen to get on the road home so two of us were left to take care of the tent and any remaining kit. It’s always a bit of a chore to pack away a soggy tent but we got it done and were off on another hike, this time to see the lost valley of Glencoe. I had wanted to do this hike for years since the first time I heard of it. We climbed up to the valley getting drenched on and off in heavy rain showers. The clouds were low and wispy. It might sound like less than ideal conditions but honestly it made it feel so ethereal and gorgeous. It felt like some fairies might jump out at any point ;). My thighs may have been burning on the rocky climb but I really loved this walk.

So that was a dreamy summer solstice weekend of camping in Glencoe with two of my closest friends! Admittedly, camping trips aren’t always that active for me and more about relaxing in nature. But I really enjoyed swimming and hiking and everything about being in Glencoe. Apart from the midges and ticks I guess! I hope I never forget the feeling of camping in a thunderstorm :). I hope however you spent the solstice was just as gorgeous!
