As the gap between the rich and the poor gets greater all the time, we are limited to what we can do to make things better. We haven't any power. The power belongs to the politicians who seem entirely incapable of not acting like toddlers in a nursery. Who seem to have an inability to make decisions based on common sense and empathy. Meanwhile in the media the left wing ignores stories that are inconvenient, and the right wing feeds us stories about how wonderful the royals are and at how the celebrities are struggling in LA at the moment.

This hero worship of people who are exactly the same as the next man, aside from the fact they were born into wealth or managed to get their face on some TV show, has always riled me. People should be judged by their actions. It is all very well for Prince William to want to end homelessness, but I bet he hasn't considered giving some of his land up. Land that the working classes worked on and that for thousands of years has been taken from us by the crown. They get wealthier off the sweat off our backs.

But I can't do anything about that. I can't effect change.

So in my small corner I do what I can in small ways. I volunteer at an animal sanctuary and I read novels. I work, which gives me pleasure in so many ways and I listen to music.

And for a little while my mind becomes calm.

Try to find the things that make you happy. Think of it as a toolbox for your mind. X
