When I have been doing outcalls I have been asking for a small deposit, just to give me piece of mind that it is in fact a genuine booking I am going to.
This is because it has happened to me, where I have driven for one hour without a deposit only to find that nobody answers the door when I get there,band all phone calls and messages are ignored.
Sometimes though a client is genuine but cannot pay a deposit due to the wife asking questions because it's a joint bank account, and I get that.
Some of these I have still gone to simply because they are either close, or I get a good vibe from their messages.
However last night I had a nightmare! The so called outcall was to a remote holiday cottage in Wales. The client had said anytime between 6pm and 10pm was good. I am so glad I chose to go at 6 when it was still light outside. This so called "client" had lured me out to the middle of nowhere. He had refused to pay a deposit because of the wife finding out. Once I got there he ignored my calls and messages, and then a strange looking man started approaching me, I have never been so scared in all my life, and luckily managed to get away.
So from now on I have decided that I will only go to bookings with no deposit paid if booked through the aw system and it is a client with feedback.
Other than that a small £5 deposit will be required just so that at least I have a name to track if ever anything bad was to happen to me
