I confess, I love the modernist period, the 1920's and 30's with it's flapper fashion, Glenn Miller music and art deco architecture.
This morning, I was walking through Parkstone, in Poole, close to where I live and I spotted a beautiful building I'd never really closely observed before. On the Ashley Road, it is a really simple, yet fantastic example of modernist architecture.
Built in 1933 it has all the hallmarks of the modernist era and it got me thinking, prompted my absolute love of this time in history that lies between two world wars.
The need to be free to design simplistically, liberty to wear fashions a little bit more.liberally and to dance more enthusiastically - what a joy it must have been for those experiencing that period in time.
This evening, I am listening to Glenn Miller and reminiscing about a time, many years past, when I was fortunate ((as an Equity card holder) to appear in a BBC series called 'House of Eliot.'
Set in the 1920's, it depicted the life and times of two sisters who ran a fashion house.
I only appeared in a couple of episodes but I can tell you this - the experience was magical.
I still have the pictures from the days I was involved in the filming of 'House of Eliot ' and the 1920's costume I wore for the episodes I appeared in.
One thing I will say say - the stockings and underwear were a killer to wear - everything costume wise was authentic.
I retain a real love for the 20's and 30's English history. It's music fashion and architecture.
